A Lifelong Obsession with Dots

While I may not remember the first candy I ever had, I do remember the first candy I had an obsession over. Candy Dots. You know, those little balls of hardened sugar that come stuck to long sheets of paper? Yeah, those.

Now that I think about it, I really can’t figure out why I was so obsessed with them. I suppose there’s a chance I had a need to increase my dietary fiber while overloading on straight sugar and artificial food coloring, but other than that, I’m drawing a blank…

For me, I think the real draw was the fact that my parents would never buy them for me. Those little morsels or yellow, blue and pink sugary goodness were reserved for times when I was with my grandparents or friends whose parents obviously loved them far more than my own. Okay, so yeah, my parents loved me, but wouldn’t it have shown how much more they loved me if they had bought them when I asked?

I don’t remember the last time I bought them, but they still call out to me every time I see them on the shelf. What was your childhood candy obsession?
